What is migration? Why was migration so prominent or popular during the 1930'? Why did people want to get "Out of the Dust" and leave the Dust Bowl? What places did the people who left the Dust Bowl travel? Why would they choose these places?
Migration is the movement of people to a new area looking for a better life or jobs. It was common and prominent during the 1930s because of the Great Depression driving people jobless and homeless, which caused people to migrate elsewhere to find better living conditions. People wanted to leave the Dust Bowl because they could not farm at all. The Dust Bowl area had a decade of drought, with very little to no rain. Black blizzards and enormous sandstorms caused destruction in the Dust Bowl, ruining farms, soil, houses, and people. The people in the Dust Bowl could not live in these conditions that they had to leave the area to find a new life. When they did migrate, they would often spread out to the west of the US, like California, because these different areas were not affected by the Dust Bowl, and the people were hopeful of a better life in the new areas.
