Research Project
HISTORICAL SIGNIFICANCE:
Conduct a small research project in class to determine the CAUSES/EFFECTS of the Great Depression. Who were the key players? What are essential questions? What are significant terms to know? What other research should be done about the Great Depression?
Relate the Great Depression to the recent Recession in American Society. How are the two similar and/or different?

The Recession
• Also known as The Lesser Depression * The Recession is a slow down in the economy, similar to the Great Depression but with less of an impact • lasted from December 2007 to June 2009 • Began with the loss of $8 trillion housing bubble • The large loss of money, plus the financial chaos that came from the loss, meant that business investments collapsed • Consumer spending also decreased during this, meaning that the loss of jobs became more in number, and more people became unemployed • the U.S. labor market lost 8.4 million jobs which became the most dramatic recession since the Great Depression • The Recession took a long "sluggish" recovery, taking 16 months after the official end of the recession, to still have the economy have 5.4% fewer jobs than it had before the Recession had began • The Recession has brought sever job loss and a slow recovery • More poverty, few jobs, incomes has dropped, and adults and children have lost their health insurances |
